Beringiya sled dog race under way in Kamchatka
Participants of the 2012 Beringiya sled dog race have already covered 650 kilometres, media reports said on Tuesday.

Initially taking part in the 18-day event were 16 dog-drivers who were tasked with tackling 1,100 kilometres across the Kamchatka Peninsula.

Two of them have decided to withdraw from the race due to health problems.

The competition has been held since 1990. The goal is to popularize sled dog races and preserve traditions of the indigenous people of Kamchatka.
