There is a new school of young mushers in the north of Kamchatka
The admission to the first training group at school of young mushers has been conducted in the center of Koryaksky Okrug in the village of Palana. Musher is a dog or reindeer-team driver in the sledge.

Lessons with children and teens are based on the sledge dog-breeding farm.

At the first lesson, children made acquaintance with their instructor – the participant of the traditional Kamchatka extreme race on the dog sledge “Beringia” Anatoly Larionov. Experienced musher agreed to take practice at school.  He shared his knowledge with the beginning sportsmen how to bring up dogs and prepare them for long distances.

“Earlier there were many dogs and sledges and people went mostly on them. Now people have changed sledges for snow vehicles and begun to forget about dogs.

However, there is a revive interest in this tendency. It’s a good interesting thing” – said Anatoly Larionov.

Active work for revival of sledge dog breeding as important tradition of native minorities is also done in other north villages in Kamchatka.
