Frost of minus 45 Celsius sets in in northern Kamchatka
Frost of minus 45 degrees Celsius has taken in its grips the northern districts of the Kamchakta territory, causing the territorial branch of the federal Ministry for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (EMERCOM) to issue recommendations to the population to take all the necessary personal safety precautions.

Experts at the Kamchatka territorial center for hydrometeorology told Itar-Tass the frosts have been produced by an anticyclone.

In the Penzhinsky district, the air temperatures did not rise above minus 39 degrees even during the daytime.

Forecasts say the frost will keep the areas under its sway through to Sunday, January 8. Warnings say minus 45 is not the limit and the temperatures may sink further to minus 50.

The recommendations EMERCOM has issued include keeping children at home until the temperature rises to at least minus 20. Senior citizens have also been asked to refrain from walks in the open air.

In the meantime, there have been no reports on whatever irregularities in the normal functions of housing services and/or public utilities.
