Round-table discussion “The language presented by our nation” took place in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.
The participants of the round table discussion confirmed the idea that the Itelmen language is threatened. Long and purposeful excluding of the language from the spheres of education, state and local administration caused quick language assimilation, sharp decrease in the number of native-speakers particularly among the youth.
As a result of an active discussion of the ways and conditions of learning and using the Itelmen language the resolution and draft proposal to the Itelmen language preservation and development program in Kamchatsiy krai were adopted.
